Working principle
In normal operation, the SM5A27HE3/2D allows a flow of bi-directional current in one direction due to its highly capacitive body. When subjected to an induced surge of high voltage, or a short-duration transient, the TVS diode automatically switches off, reducing the voltage passing through the circuit by limiting the current flow. During this operation, the SM5A27HE3/2D tends to dissipate the induced surge in the form of heat. The device is designed to automatically reset to its original state as soon as the induced surge has disappeared.
The SM5A27HE3/2D offers a wide operating temperature range and can withstand up to 400V. It also has a high thermal stability and provides electrostatic protection. The device can dissipate up to 46A of maximum current and can also be operated at frequencies up to 20 MHz. It has a low clamping voltage of 3.9V and a low capacitance of 0.3 to 0.5 pF.
