SM6T39CAY is a TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) diode, which is designed to limit surge current or to protect against transient overvoltage. Application Field

Working Principle

SM6T39CAY is an inversely biased Avalanche diode which clamps voltages which exceed its breakdown voltage. Under normal circumstances, the diode is not conducting. When a surge voltage is applied, the diode turns on and starts to conduct a current with relatively low voltage drop and low forward voltage. When the surge is over, the diode switches off and returns to being a non-conductive state. Since the voltage drop across the diode is small, power dissipation is minimized and no damage is caused to the circuit. Since this diode is unidirectional, it is ideal for overvoltage protection or for polarity sensitive protection.

The SM6T39CAY is designed to handle high voltage transients and has a surge capability of 400W peak power. Its high surge capability allows it to handle more than ten times the normal voltage without exceeding the diode\'s maximum peak forward current. It also offers excellent clamping performance with a peak pulse power rating of 400W and a maximum operating temperature of 150°C. The device also offers high surge capability and excellent clamping performance.
