Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) zener diodes are components that provide a fast, stable, and predictable response to overvoltage, regardless of voltage, rate, or duration. The SMA6J12A is designed for use in automotive, military, telecommunications, medical, aerospace, and industrial electronic systems. It is unique in that it is designed to withstand extremely high-energy transients of up to 12 Amps, which can occur in any combination with high-voltage and short duration pulses.
The SMA6J12A can be used in both protection and power suppressing applications. In protection applications, it limits the level of current flowing through the device by dynamically clamping off excessive voltage levels. In power suppressing applications, it is used to reduce electrical noise or electromagnetic interference, allowing the device to maintain its operating efficiency and reliability. The SMA6J12A can also be used as a surge arrester to provide protection against surges and spikes.
The SMA6J12A features a fast switching response, low clamping voltage, and low forward voltage drop. The device can remain clamped for pulse widths up to 100 nano seconds, and its clamping voltage adaptation is optimized for applications with narrow and wide pulse widths.
