The SMAZ5930B-M3/5A is a type of diode-zener single device, placed in the middle voltage range of 10 V to 180 V, It based on the zener voltage tunability principle. It has a small size, fast response time and good quality, specially designed for its applications in stabilizing and adjustable power supply, wave voltage limitation, voltage clamping, overvoltage protection and etc. Working Principle In the SMAZ5930B-M3/5A, the surrounding material contains a type of doped semiconductor to attain a relatively wide range of breakdown voltage. The more heavily doped P-type semiconductor material is placed adjacent to the heavily doped N-type semiconductor. When an external bias is applied across the junction, an electric field is induced in the P-type area and it will cause electrons to pass over the junction and enter the P-type material. This junction forms the so-called depletion zone that prohibits the current flowing in the normal direction. The applied electric field increases the continuous flow of electrons from the N-type material to the P-type material and the depletion zone is reduced. When the electric field reaches the zener breakdown voltage, the zener breakdown phenomenon occurs and the depletion zone disappeared, allowing the current to flow in the opposite direction. Application FieldSMAZ5930B-M3/5A is widely used in power management, stabilizing and adjustable power supply, partial discharge protection, wave voltage limitation, overvoltage protection and leakage current protection. For instances, its application in adjustable power supply provides a wide control range of 0 to 20 V with a uniform control over the load, allowing the load current to flow in ±1mA to 20mA range in order to achieve accurate voltage control and prolong the service life. This device is also applied in overvoltage protection. When the overvoltage exceeds the rated voltage, the SMAZ5930B-M3/5A will activate so that the overvoltage is prevented from damaging the components in other circuits. In addition, the SMAZ5930B-M3/5A is applied in the partial discharge protection to protect the apparatuses from lightning strikes and other high-voltage pulses. It effectively lowers the risk of a power failure or electric shock. Besides, when combined with an AC relay, the SMAZ5930B-M3/5A device can provide cost effective, reliable, and stable protection when used in other electrical systems, such as AC-powered motors, transformers, and motors.
