Working Principle

The SMB10J8.0AHE3/5B works on the principle of a Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV) or Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS). It is a two terminal passive device, with a internal passivating layer in between the two terminals. When subjected to a voltage surge, it will clamp the voltage to a safe level. This process effectively protects the circuit from damage due to overvoltage. The MOV provides very low capacitance and fast response time, allowing it to react quickly and efficiently to voltage surges.The MOV also provides protection against over-voltage, over-temperature, over-use and over-charge conditions. It can protect up to 10,000 Amps peak and a peak voltage of 8.0 Joules.
