TVS diodes are devices to protect noisy or high-voltage electrical systems against power surges. It absorbs energy through a nonlinear junction between a n-type and p-type semiconductor, creating low-impedance current paths that can absorb overvoltages. This series incorporates high-voltage fast-acting bipolar siliconavalanche devices to further control transient currents. The working principle lies on the fact that when high voltage is applied to the TVS diode, it turns on and creates a low-resistance path that delivers the current to the ground, instantly clamping the voltage and reducing the surge to a manageable level.

The unidirectional TVS diodes have been designed with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C and typical control time of less than 1.0 ns. Additionally, the series is Peak Pulse Power Rated (PPPR) with low clamping voltage and low leakage current through normal operation and breakdown. The SMBG45CHE3/5B series is available in standard 8-pin SOT-23 package, and are also available in Tape & Reel packaging.
