Application Field

Working Principle

The SMBJ28HE3/52 combines the benefits of both a Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) and a Fast Acting Quick Response Fuse. The TVS element provides low-clamping performance with a minimal turn-on voltage which allows for superior protection against ESD and EFT. The fast-acting fuse element offers immediate response to short-circuits or over-current conditions ensuring highest degree of reliability. The combination of these two elements in one package helps to reduce system complexity.

The SMBJ28HE3/52 is designed to provide a high level of protection. During an ESD event, the TVS element will protect against voltage transients up to 28 volts by clamping the voltage to a safe level. During an overload event, the quick-acting fuse element will respond almost instantaneously to protect the circuit from excessive current which may otherwise lead to a circuit short or complete failure.
