The second stage is the avalanche clamp where the diode voltage is clamped to a safe operating range of up to 36V. This is the recommended operating mode for the SMBJ36A-TP as it provides the best overall switch off time.
SMBJ36A-TP PerformanceThe SMBJ36A-TP offers excellent performance in terms of voltage clamping, ESD protection, as well as surge protection. It has a clamping voltage of 0.2 to 36V and a response time of 17ns. It also offers protection from over-voltage conditions of up to 20kV contact discharge per the ESD protection standards.
