TVS – Diode is a form of overvoltage protection device designed to protect sensitive electronics. It is composed of a transient-voltage-suppressing diode in series with a Zener diode, offering superior protection to circuits exposed to high voltages and fast rise time transients. SMC30J40A is an advanced overvoltage protection device designed for telecommunications, communication, and data traffic infrastructure networks.

SMC30J40A is specifically designed for applications aimed at protecting end-user equipment against electrical overstress caused by lightning strikes, power surges, and various other transient voltage phenomena. This device offers superior performance features compared to traditional diodes. It has a tri-mode feature which offers protection on balanced and unbalanced systems with identical capacitively coupled conditions. Additionally, it has surge-limiting protection for short circuits up to a sustained maximum peak-to-peak voltage of 40 thousand volts.

The SMC30J40A has a working principle that operates through a special self-acting mechanism. When lightning or any other abnormal surge voltage is applied, it clamps down the voltage to the peak-to-peak voltage of 40 thousand volts. At the same time, the tri-mode feature of the device allows it to protect both balanced and unbalanced systems with the same degree of efficacy.
