Therefore, when the reverse voltage across the diode exceeds the Zener avalanche breakdown voltage, the Zener diode will start to clamp the excess voltage, preventing it from overvoltaging the sensitive components. When the transient overvoltage has ceased, the clamp voltage is slowly discharged through the integrated parasitic capacitance, allowing the SMLJ45AE3/TR13 to reset itself and the power supply to its working state. In return, the normal operating voltage is restored.The SMLJ45AE3/TR13 is designed to provide fast response time to transients, providing protection against both ESD (electrostatic discharge) and lightning strike transients, while its compact dual-in-line package (DIP) makes it ideal for use in tight spaces or low-profile applications.
