Working Principle of SMP17A-E3/85A
The SMP17A-E3/85A is a two-electrode device consisting of a PN junction, which is the most common form of diode construction. When an external voltage is applied to the diode, the p-type material and the n-type material form an electrostatic junction, creating a closed circuit. When the external voltage is higher than the PN junction voltage, the SMP17A-E3/85A device starts to conduct current, allowing the current to flow through it.When a transient voltage spike occurs, electrons from the external source will be able to enter the PN junction and cause an avalanche effect. This will cause an increase in the current flowing through the junction. As the transient voltage is removed, the current will drop. This is the basic working principle of SMP17A-E3/85A transient voltage suppression device.
