A TVS or transient voltage suppression diode is a type of diode which is specially designed to prevent short circuits or overvoltages from travelling through electric circuits and causing dangerous conditions. The SMPC64AN-M3/H is a specific type of TVS diode that is designed to provide a high level of protection against transients and ESD.Application Field

The SMPC64AN-M3/H functions by clamping the voltage down to a specified level to minimise any risk of damage due to a transient or ESD. This is achieved by the diode having an Integral TVS (Transient Voltage Suppression) structure which is connected directly to anode and cathode pins. This structure is designed to shut off the power circuit safely in the event of an overvoltage or short circuit condition. When this happens, the diode activates its dielectric strength to absorb large amounts of energy that could otherwise enter the system and cause damage. The diode also has a low capacitance which helps to protect high-speed buses and systems. This low capacitance is due to the use of an MOSFET with an oxide layer for its construction which helps to ensure a low input capacitance. In addition, the diode also features low leakage current which is desigend to minimise power consumption. This is achieved by reducing the on-state resistance and increasing the off-state resistance to enable a greater differential voltage to be present. Another key feature of the SMPC64AN-M3/H is its triple protection which is designed to enhance the device’s protection against transients. It contains three different elements; a diodic response element which clamps the voltage when triggered, a variable voltage response element which is used to attenuate the incoming overvoltage, and a low capacitance element which allows the device to handle high speed currents. Finally, the diode also features a wide operating temperature range which is suitable for use in environments with extreme temperatures.Conclusion
