The SN6501-3EVM evaluation board is an evaluation module for power supply engineers to easily evaluate the performance of TI\'s SN6501-3 integrated circuit (ICs). The device includes features such as a high switching frequency (up to 500kHz), an adjustable peak current limit, an adjustable output voltage, and a high efficiency (up to 87%). Additionally, the device has an internal overvoltage protection and an internal short-circuit protection.
The operating principle of the SN6501-3 is based on a feedback mechanism. When the output voltage reaches the desired level, the feedback signal triggers an on-board driver circuit which activates the Moselle high-side switch which in turn controls the primary side of the transformer. The transformer secondary side is then connected to the IC so that the output voltage is monitored and, if necessary, adjusted. Additionally, the current through the primary side of the transformer is monitored and current limit is set by the on-board driver circuit.
