SN65EL16DGK is a driver, receiver, and transceiver designed by Texas Instruments. This device interfaces and drives LVDS (Low-Voltage Differential Signaling) data lines over a differential pair of transmission lines in a low-cost, low-power application. SN65EL16DGK is targeted for reducing EMI (electromagnetic interference) from LVDS signal lines in a board-to-board interconnection system. It provides an optimal signal performance for data rates up to 250 Mbps and signal transmission up to 100 meters and higher depending on the cable type.

SN65EL16DGK driver and receiver functionality is divided into a driver side-channel and a receiver side-channel. The driver side-channel interfaces and transmits LVDS input data over a differential pair of transmission lines whereas the receiver side-channel receives the incoming LVDS data, compares it against a reference voltage, and outputs the data as logic-levels. The system thereby eliminates need for external line termination. To optimize the logic level margins, both the driver and the receiver operate with a common reference voltage.

SN65EL16DGK provide a better signal-to-noise density than AC-coupled LVDS busses. This results in shorter propagation delay and a smaller error rate due to transmission line noise. The device also provides an internal line input termination and an on-chip reference voltage generation, so that the output is compatible with other logic families regardless of the variation in supply voltage and temperature.
