The SN65HVD07D provides a physical layer interface to a CAN protocol controller, with both differential transmit and receive functionality. The internal block diagram is shown below.
The transmitter consists of a differential pair of drivers that are controlled by two inputs, CAN_H and CAN_L. The drivers produce a differential output on the bus terminated by the bus termination resistor. The receiver consists of a differential pair of receivers. It senses the differential voltage on the CAN bus and outputs a differential voltage to the CAN controller. The receiver comparison circuit is responsible for comparing the two differential voltages. When the differential voltage meets the acceptance criteria, the receiver outputs a low voltage, indicating the successful receipt of a valid data frame. During idle periods, the receiver outputs a high voltage. The receiver has an adjustable threshold which can be used to set up the acceptance window. This allows compatibility with different CAN and ISO 11898-2 transceivers.The SN65HVD07D also has other features such as a Sleep Mode, Wakeup Filter, and various status outputs. The Sleep Mode allows the CAN transceiver to enter a low-power state when the bus is idle. In this state, the transceiver draws no current and only the supply current is drawn. The Wakeup Filter allows the transceiver to ignore wakeup frames, which are used to wake the CAN controller from the Sleep state. The various status outputs indicate the presence of a valid data frame and can be used to indicate an error on the bus, an arbitration frame or a framing error.Conclusion
