The working principle of the SN65HVD233HD transceiver can be divided into two parts – the bus transceiver and the low-side power switch. The bus transceiver is a differential, point-to-point digital communication link which supports a wide range of data rates. The device couples the transmitter and receiver sections using the shielded differential line and provides a common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) greater than 45 dB. It uses a differential bus receiver to detect the transmitted voltages and output the corresponding logic levels. The receiver is designed to detect the transmitted voltage levels that range from −200 to +400 mV.

The low-side power switch is used to switch the electric power to the transceiver. The switch is connected to the supply voltage using a PMOS FET and the gate voltage of the FET is controlled using a control signal from the device. The power switch provides fast switching with low RDS(on) and low quiescent current. The switch can also be used to enable and disable the data channel of the transceiver.
