The SN65LVDS125AEVM evaluation board is used to evaluate the performance of the SN65LVDS125AE, a differential bus transceiver. For the purposes of this evaluation board, the SN65LVDS125A device contains two open-collector transceiver circuits that support two unidirectional, point-to-point communication channels. This is suitable for a variety of applications, including video monitors, industrial control equipment, medical equipment, and network systems etc.
The evaluation board includes two separate transceiver circuits for interface to two different systems, and it makes proper use of center tap connections, providing equal swing on both the rising and the falling edge of the differential signal. This ensures full compatibility with the signal requirements of various systems. It is also designed to provide minimal added-delay and reflect minimal disparity in levels between the two sides of the differential signals.
In terms of its structure, the board consists primarily of two SMA connectors, an adjustable termination resistor, and the output connector. The board also has a few other components, such as a 0-ohm resistor, bypass capacitors, and test jumpers. Two LED indicators are also provided to indicate when the board is transmitting and receiving data.
The working principle of the SN65LVDS125AEVM evaluation board is simple. When data is transmitted from the host system, the SN65LVDS125A converts it from single-ended TTL compatible digital signals to differential signal, with a voltage swing of 450mV to 700mV, and the transmitted signal is then connected to the receiver pair via the SMA connectors. The receiver pairs, in turn, convert the differential signal back to TTL compatible. Adjustment of the termination resistor can be done to customize the termination impedance, depending on the application requirements.
The SN65LVDS125AEVM evaluation board provides a simple and cost effective solution for testing and evaluating the performance of the SN65LVDS125A differential bus transceiver.
