SN65LVDS2D Application Field and Working Principle
The SN65LVDS2D is an advanced, low–voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line driver/receiver pair from Texas Instruments. The transceivers are ideal for any application requiring ultra-high speed signals in tight-packing, cost-sensitive applications. They are suitable for communication links between two nodes, including server and switches, microprocessors and graphics, and routers and communication interface cards. The transceivers are fully compliant with the LVDS standard, providing a low–voltage (1.2 V), low-power digital interface with speeds from 0 to 324 Mbps.
Characteristics of the SN65LVDS2D
The SN65LVDS2D transceiver provides a single differential LVDS connection, and is packaged in a 12-pin SSOP (Small Outline Packaging) package. It operates on a 5 V power supply and provides power, ground, and I/O pins. It also supports configurable enable, flow control, and bus inversion. Working Principle
The SN65LVDS2D transceiver is based on a differential ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) and is capable of sending and receiving data at high speeds. The transceiver is composed of two parts—a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter is responsible for converting a parallel data stream into a differential LVDS signal, while the receiver is responsible for converting a differential LVDS signal into a parallel data stream. Both the transmitter and the receiver employ a complementary data encoding technique which allows up to 10 times faster data transmission when compared to a single ended signal.
The transmitter consists of three parts: the differential encoding logic, the open-collector logic, and the differential output driver logic. The differential encoding logic encodes the digital data signals into a differential LVDS signal. The open-collector logic provides a means to shut down the output driver when desired. The differential output driver is enabled when both of its input pins are in the logical high state, allowing the differential LVDS signal to be transmitted. The receiver consists of two parts: the differential input-capacitor logic and the differential decoder logic.
The differential input-capacitor logic filters the differential LVDS signal and attenuates any unwanted noise or crosstalk. The differential decoder logic then decodes the differential LVDS signal back into its original form, providing a parallel data output. The SN65LVDS2D also provides an internal receiver termination resistor for improved return loss characteristics.
