The SN65LVDS348DG4 is an interface driver, receiver and transceiver designed to meet the high-speed signaling requirements of both the personal computer and low-voltage, point-to-point, system applications. It is a quadruple driver and receiver solution compliant to the well-established Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS) standard. LVDS signals are exchanged between two devices over a differential pair of conductors providing simple clock and data transfer. This type of signaling is particularly attractive because of its low power consumption and low noise transmission.
The SN65LVDS348DG4 contains four independent receivers and drivers for high speed data communication up to 155 Mbps at the 2- differential pair upstream and downstream. The SN65LVDS348DG4 is well suited for applications in which low power, low noise and high speed data transmission is required, such as computer main boards, communications and networking applications, radio base stations and other high-speed mobile communication systems.
The SN65LVDS348DG4 features differential I/O compatible with LVDS standards, low power consumption, improved ESD withstand voltage of 9kV, low propagation delay time of 12ns, PCI bus compatible and support up to 2.5V VIL and 2.5V VOH. It is available in 48-pin LQFP package and is fully specified from -40°C to +85°C over commercial and industrial temperature grades.
In terms of operation, the SN65LVDS348DG4 enables data transfer through the differential transmission of complementary logic signals on an LVDS compatible bus. This bus is comprised of two low voltage, low impedance, twisted pairs of lines with an impedance of typically 100 ohms. The signaling on the pairs of lines is differential so that the data is encoded on the difference between the two lines. Thus, the metastable periods of single-ended signals, which could cause errors if detected as logic levels, are eliminated. The complementary logic levels used in the differential signaling are represented as a voltage of either 0.2V to 0.8V (low) or 0.8V to 1.2V (high).
The SN65LVDS348DG4 devices feature interrupt pin which, when enabled, provide an indication of the data activity. This is useful, for example, to reduce current consumption when there is no data traffic or when the device is not connected to the bus. The device also includes power down and output enable control that is used to place the device in various different power saving modes.
