The logic family of the device is CMOS, and the integrated circuit is silicon-on-insulator (SOI).The SN74ABT8996DW has two kinds of operating states: normal and current-limited (CL). In normal high speed mode, the input transitions are detected using an on-chip RC clock-sampling circuit. In CL mode, the input signals are sampled at a reduced rate, allowing for improved safety at the expense of reduced speed.The working principle of the SN74ABT8996DW is to receive an input clock signal, detect the logic level on the inputs, and then output the data bits corresponding to the logic level on the outputs.In order to provide the correct output for a given input, the device contains 2 sets of 8-bit registers, one for the output data and one for the output data mask. The output data register contains 8 bits of data that will be output on the 8 output pins when the device is enabled by an ENB signal. The output data mask register holds the bit values for each of the 8 output pins. If any bit in the data mask register is set, the corresponding output pin will be set to an active low output.The SN74ABT8996DW also includes a separate CLK_DET lap pin, which is used to detect the rising edge of the input clock. This input clock is then supplied to both the 8-bit registers, so that the logic level of the input is sampled and the corresponding output is set.Overall, the SN74ABT8996DW is an useful and versatile specialty logic device, with features that greatly benefit users, whether they are using it as part of a system clock fanout buffer, local bus fanout buffer, or in any other application.
