Working Principle

The SN74ACT374N works on the basis of two basic states: Set and Reset. In Set state, output Q has high logic level, i.e. 5V and output Q# has low logic level, i.e. 0V. On the other hand, in Reset state, Q has low logic level, i.e. 0V, and Q# has high logic level, i.e. 5V. In order to switch from Set to Reset state, the SN74ACT374N uses a clock signal. When a high logic level (5V) is applied to the clock input C, it switches the flip-flop from Set to Reset state, and from Reset to Set state when there is a low logic level at the clock input (0V).The SN74ACT374N also contains two flip-flops internally: the preset flip-flop and the reset flip-flop. These two can be used independently or simultaneously. When a logic high is applied to the preset input, the S output of the preset flip-flop will be pulled to the high logic level, thus setting the flip-flop in the Set state regardless of the clock input. A logic low signal at the reset signal will pull the R output of the reset flip-flop to the low logic level and thus reset the flip-flop to the Reset state.
