The SN74ALVCH16500DLR is a high-speed, 2nd-order, low-skew 8-bit sync-point register. It provides universal bus functionality in a 15-bit wide package. This logic device is designed to offer a flexible high-performance solution for data movement, synchronization and control of data flow in a wide variety of applications. The SN74ALVCH16500DLR provides three common types of registers: byte control-register, queue-register, and FIFO-register.

In a byte control-register, the input data can be clocked from an input buffer to an output buffer by means of an external state machine or a controller. The SN74ALVCH16500DLR’s byte-control register operations provide for the performance of advanced bus operations such as sharing, splitting and shifting of data, as well as stack and queue operations. The state machine can also be used to control multiple registers, thereby allowing the implementation of complex memory structures.

Once clocked in, the data remains in each register until the data is flushed from one or more registers, or a queue interrupt signal is generated.

For FIFO-registers, the SN74ALVCH16500DLR provides additional control signals for initializing the FIFO and for indicating overflow conditions. Again, the data is clocked into the register simultaneously, when the clock enable signal is asserted. Once the data is clocked in, the SN74ALVCH16500DLR will generate an output signal indicating that the FIFO is full. This output signal can then be used to control the flow of data through the FIFO, allowing for efficient data flow management.
