SN74CB3Q16211DL is a high-speed quad bus switch. The device has two 4-bit inputs (A0–A3, B0–B3) and one 4-bit output (Y0–Y3). It is designed to switch one of two opposing data buses to a common output in 15-ns tPD. A select (SEL) input is used to indicate which of the two inputs (A or B) should be switched to Y. tSEL is the propagaion delay from the select input to the output and is less than 15 ns for 3-V VCC.The device has been designed to switch data and address buses in applications ranging from microprocessors to radio-frequency applications and communications equipments. Additionally, SN74CB3Q16211DL can be used to multiplex data buses or to temporarily cross buses without changing the logic level of any of the data and control signals.SN74CB3Q16211DL is composed of four series of 2-input multiplexers that using CMOS technology as basic building blocks. Each multiplexer is composed of two CMOS transmission gates. The transmission gates are normally closed, but when the select line is high, one of the two transmission gates (controlled by the select line) is opened. This open transmission gate allows the data from the appropriate (A or B) side to pass through and changes the state of the output of the multiplexer. Therefore, when the enable is asserted and one input is selected, the data from the selected input is passed through to the output. SN74CB3Q16211DL also come with two control signals for each of the 4-bit data buses. It contains WR1_, WR2_, WR3_ and WR4_ control signals. WR1_ is connected to the A0–A3 inputs while WR2_ is connected to the B0–B3 inputs. The WR1_ and WR2_ lines can be used to control the write action on each of the 4-bit buses independently. This is useful in cases where the 2 buses need to transfer data at different rates or when the 2 buses are not the same size. The WR3_ and WR4_ lines are used for data select (EN1 for WR3_ and EN2 for WR4_) and data enable (EN1 for WR3_ and EN2 for WR4_). Data select enables the data present on the selected bus while data enable enables the output of the respective bus on the output (Y0–Y3).
