Logic-Signal Switches, Multiplexers, and Decoders provide a vast array of functions from the very basic switching of one signal to another and electronic data-gathering functions all the way to elaborate timing and control systems. All of these devices can simplify a digital system\'s design and implementation, but one particular integrated circuit, the SN74CBT3126PWRG4, provides designers a combination of switching, multiplexing, and decoding functions. The SN74CBT3126PWRG4 is a wide-range CMOS multiplexer/decoder with 3-state outputs. It has two 16-bit two-way data sources that can be demultiplexed into two 16 outputs and is controlled by four lines of control, the most significant being the Mode Select (MSEL) line which dictates the type of operation. The first data source is selectable by a 4-bit select input (x0–x3), which allows the data source to be either F0 or F1, while the second data source is selectable by an enable input (xEN). The SN74CBT3126PWRG4 features low quiescent power consumption, as well as low active power consumption suited for battery-powered applications. Each select line corresponds to a single bit in the data source, while the enable input (xEN) ensures that the selected data source is actually enabled. In terms of operation, when the select lines and MSEL pins are set LOW and a HIGH-level signal is applied to the enable input, the output corresponding to the input data is set to a HIGH level and the other outputs are set to a Z level. The \'Mux & DMux\' mode is activated when the Mode Select (MSEL) line is set HIGH. This mode allows the two data inputs to be multiplexed or demultiplexed depending on the state of the enable input (xEN). When the enable input is at a HIGH level, the two data sources are multiplexed. By setting each of the four select lines (x0–x3), one bit of the data source can be selected. When the enable input is set to a LOW level, the data sources are demultiplexed and the enable input ensures that both of the data sources are present before any output is generated.
