SN74LS07DRE4 is a logic buffer or driver IC from Texas Instrument’s 74LS series of integrated circuits. It has four identical independent non-inverting buffers with high-voltage output drive capability. The device has totem pole outputs which can operate at push-pull voltage levels up to 24V, offering improved waveforms with higher sink-source current drive. It consists of four independent 2-input NAND gates with open-drain outputs. The output power reaches up to 24 volts and can operate up to an allowable temperature range of -55°C to 125°C.

The SN74LS07DRE4 integrated circuit can be categorized under Logic – Buffers, Drivers, Receivers, Transceivers. It is primarily used as a buffer, which provides the necessary electrical current amplification to drive the load while providing input protection. Working Principle of SN74LS07DRE4
The SN74LS07DRE4 operates on positive logic, where logic “1“ is represented by the higher voltage. It has two active logic inputs labeled as A and B, and four outputs labeled Y1, Y2, Y3, and Y4. When all the four inputs are simultaneously connected to the same voltage, all the outputs will become the same as the input voltage. Whenever the A or B inputs receive a logic “1” as the input, then the output Y1 will become “0” and all other outputs will become “1”. Similarly, when B input is given logic “1”, then the output Y2 changes to “0” and all other outputs become “1”. This can be explained using the truth table below.

The SN74LS07DRE4 also features Schmitt-trigger action on both inputs. This helps in reducing noise from input signals resulting in clean and jitter free output. Schmitt triggers provide a noise immune positive of a square wave, which virtually eliminates all bounce and disharmony in the output signals. This increases the overall system performance and helps to reduce the number of logic elements.

The SN74LS07DRE4 is generally used in logic motor controllers and other motor control circuitry. Other applications include buffering and power management, data communication systems and signal processing applications such as DAC and ADC converters.
