The SN74LV138ADGVR is a decoder/demultiplexer component within the Logic - Signal Switches, Multiplexers, Decoders range of devices. SN74LV138ADGVR is exclusively designed to provide a logic logic signal conversion with high density multiplexing. It has been designed to provide logic signal decoding and demultiplexing of 3-to-8 lines within its range of operation. This component works using 3-bit inputs and data is demultiplexed by selecting the corresponding 8-output line. The SN74LV138ADGVR supports more than one Select Input combinations and provides low power consumption due to its built in advanced CMOS logic technology. The device makes use of four 3-bit input lines (A0, A1, A2 and A3) which are decoded into eight different output lines. Using the truth table, it is possible to visualize that input lines A0 - A2 become enable lines OE1 - OE3 for outputs O0 - O7 upon a low signal. Since inputs A0 - A2 are considered as enable lines, selecting a corresponding eight-output line is possible by further combining with an enable line A3. Upon the status of a high-signal input to the enable line A3, the outputs O0 - O7 become invalid.
The SN74LV138ADGVR functions through the use of three select inputs (A0, A1 and A2) as well as an active-low enable input (A3). These inputs control the output patterns, enabling the device to demultiplex 8-outputs (Q0 - Q7). Upon the application of a single logic input, the device selects one output line based on the three select inputs’ logic combination. These data selector logic inputs are directly connected to the decode logic within the device, so that the operation of the SN74LV138ADGVR follows a specific computation of operation.
Using a combination of a NAND gate, AND gate, NOR gate and an XOR gate, the SN74LV138ADGVR is able to select one output line from 8 as per the logic applied to input lines A0 - A3.
