The SN74LV138ATDBR is a 3-to-8 line decoder/demultiplexer device which offers high-performance functions and low-power consumption at a modest price. It is widely used in the field of logic-signal switches, multiplexers and decoders.The SN74LV138ATDBR, package in SOIC-14, is built with three information inputs – A0, A1, A2 and eight enable inputs – E0, E1, …, E7. In addition, it features eight buffered output buffers, O0, O1, …, O7. Outstanding data toggling characteristics, with a stand-by power tip of max. 0.83 mW.When two or more input signals are applied to the SN74LV138ATDBR, it enables one of the output buffers accordingly. This device is mainly used for applications where multiple signals must be decoded depending on a given input and for memory segmentation and demultiplexing applications.The SN74LV138ATDBR can operate from both 5 V and 3 V power supplies with outputs that are compatible with both TTL and CMOS and are compatible with standard 74-series microprocessor bus. In addition, inputs are TTL compatible, and the outputs of SN74LV138ATDBR are capable of line driving a minimum of 15 TTL loads. This makes it suitable for a wide range of logic applications.In detail, the working principle of SN74LV138ATDBR can be explained as follows. It is a decoder/demultiplexer, which has an active low enable input. This means that when an enable input is low, the output buffers will be enabled.When an enable input is high, the output buffers will be disabled.The SN74LV138ATDBR has three information inputs, A0, A1, and A2. The SN74LV138ATDBR performs the decoding of the three information inputs and will enable one of the output buffers depending upon the value of the three information inputs.The output buffers of the SN74LV138ATDBR are non-inverting buffers and are capable of driving 15 TTL loads. The output buffers provide both high-speed fan-out and low-power operation.
