Working Principle
The SN74LV138ATRGYRG4 logic circuit works by decoding three binary address inputs and generating eight mutually exclusive outputs. This process is performed using two levels of logic. The first level is the two-to-four-line decoder, which is enabled by the C1 input. If C1 is at high (1), the decoder is enabled and the A, B and C inputs act as two-line inputs, A, B and their complements. The outputs of the two-to-four decoder are D0-D3, which act as inputs to the three-to-eight decoder, and the outputs of the three-to-eight decoder are O0-O7.
The second level is the three-to-eight line decoder, which is enabled by the C1 input. If C1 is at low (0), the encoder is enabled and the A, B and C inputs act as three-line inputs, A, B and C. The outputs of the three-to-eight decoder are O0-O7 and are controlled by A, B and C. The SN74LV138ATRGYRG4 can also be used as a two-to-four line decoder.
