The SN74LVC257AQDRG4Q1 gate is part of the family of the LVC(Low Voltage CMOS), an advanced low power Schmitt trigger-input CMOS devices. As part of the Logic - Signal Switches, Multiplexers, Decoders, the SN74LVC257AQDRG4Q1 (hereafter referred as LVC257A) serves as a multiplexer (mux) or 2-to-4 demultiplexer (demux).The LVC257A is used in circuits to provide the function of selecting one-of-four signal paths under the control of two select inputs in a fast and economical way. The output sequences depend on the select conditions of the two inputs, S0 and S1. Data is entered through 4 data inputs (A-D) with one of the four outputs (Y0-Y3) selected by the S0 and S1 inputs. The Y output will be equal to the A, B, C or D input depending on the select conditions of S0 and S1.The LVC257A operates from a 1.65V VCC (Minimum) to 3.6V (Maximum) supply voltage. Since it is LVC, it consumes very little power, guaranteeing medium to long usage life and a low power system. In addition, the TTL-CMOS input logic accepts voltages from 1.4V to 15V, allowing a good compatibility with standard logic ICs.In terms of operation speed the LVC257A has two different versions. The ‘Q’ version has a maximum propagation delay of 7.9ns while the \'C’ version has a maximum propagation delay of 10.6ns. This is a very important step in terms of modern day circuitry since the circuit is able to respond almost instantaneously with a minimally amount of power used.The LVC257A has also immunity to noise due to its Schmitt Trigger input. This allows the input signals to be very low even in an environment with large voltage spikes while at the same time keeping the input logic low with a pull down resistor. This immunity to noise allows the circuit to be immune to external influences, not having its logic affected by their surroundings.Lastly, the LVC257A has a wide temperature range of operation, from -40°C to +85°C. This is a feature that is not seen in a lot of contemporary ICs in the market being a feature only found in high-end but expensive ICs.
