Introduction

The SN74LVC373APW is an Octal D-Type Flip-Flop device which comprises eight non-inverting D-type flip-flops with separate D, Set and Reset inputs, suitable for data storage and bus applications. It functions as a gated latch to store data, or as a byte-wide, transparent buffer where the data is presented at the outputs whenever the Enable input is LOW. This device is part of the Texas Instruments LVC (Low Voltage CMOS) Logic products family.

Application Field

The SN74LVC373APW can be used in a wide variety of applications, such as counters, shuffling of data bits, shifting of data bits, serial-to-parallel or parallel-to-serial conversion of data, and realization of synchronous/asynchronous pipelines. Working Principle

The SN74LVC373APW is an octal D-type flip-flop device composed of eight non-inverting D-type flip-flops. Each flip-flop has its own inputs and outputs, while the Clock and Enable inputs are shared among the eight flip-flops. The Clock and Enable inputs together form a control logic for the latch which controls the flow of data.When the device is in the inactive state, the Clock is at a LOW logical level and the Enable is at a HIGH logical level. In this state, the D inputs are ignored and the stored data at the Qoutputs remain unaffected.When the Control Logic is active, the Clock is at a HIGH logical level and the Enable is at a LOW logical level. In this state, the data at the D inputs are stored in the latching elements, while the data at the Q outputs are updated accordingly. As mentioned earlier, the SN74LVC373APW can be used as a gated latch with the help of a clock signal. The data stored in the latch will be retained at the Q outputs as long as the clock signal is HIGH. When the clock signal goes LOW, the stored data will be updated with the data from the D inputs. Additionally, the Reset input is used to reset all the data in the device to logical LOW level independently of the Clock and Enable inputs.
