Working principle

SP3003-08ATG works by blocking or "clamping" the voltage of an incoming power surge and redirecting it away from sensitive components. It does so by effectively dissipating the excess energy as heat. When the power surge reaches the diode, the internal structure of the diode quickly switches from a reverse-biased state to a forward-biased state. In this forward bias state, the diode becomes essentially a short-circuit, allowing the current to flow freely through it and dissipating the surplus energy as heat.

The diode then quickly returns to its reverse biased state, blocking any further current from passing through it. This process happens extremely quickly so that the voltage of the surge is effectively "clamped" before it can cause any damage to the protected device. This helps to ensure that the protected device remains undamaged and that no further current is allowed to flow through it.

Additionally, the SP3003-08ATG provides several other features such as reverse bias protection, which helps keep the circuit protected during negative voltage surges, and transient immunity, which helps to further protect against ESD and other power disturbances.
