SP3304 NUTG transil diodes are used in various electronic devices, such as USB interface protection, Ethernet ports, VDSL/ADSL lines, IEEE 1394 Firewire buses and GPS receivers. Furthermore, they are used in automotive circuit boards for protecting sensors and membranes from ESD damage.Working Principle of SP3304NUTG
SP3304 NUTG works by offering a low threshold voltage (Vcl) and a high transient current (Ipp). When a high voltage (including ESD pulses and over-voltage surges) is applied to the device, it will quickly clamp the voltage by providing a fast switching action.In detail, this low clamping voltage (Vcl) is achieved because of the reverse breakdown voltage (Vbr) of its two-stage transil technology, which is as low as unidirectional transil devices (TVS diodes). This breakdown voltage is 800V for unidirectional diodes, but it can be reduced to less than 22V, when two or more diodes are connected in series or a complex arrangement of diodes are combined in parallel.When the voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage of the transil diodes, it will result in a very fast rate of rise current, which will limit the peak current and quickly discharge the excess voltage to a safe level. This is how the SP3304NUTG offers excellent protection from high-voltage transients.Conclusion
