The SP6644UEB is an evaluation board developed by ON Semiconductor. The board leverages the power of the SP6644 synchronous buck regulator, which is an off-line buck converter. The board can be used to quickly determine the actual performance of an SMPS (switched-mode power supply) system and measure key parameters in both normal and abnormal operating conditions.
The SP6644UEB board includes an inductor, sensing resistor, various capacitors, a solder-in connector to the DC input source, and eight solder-in connections to the output voltage and current sensing terminal. Additionally, the board includes three unpopulated terminal pins for attaching an oscilloscope probe to measure the switching node waveforms, and one unpopulated terminal pin for a 3-pin header for configuration changes. The extra pins in the package provide many advantages, such as the ability to configure the device for a variety of load parameters.
The SP6644UEB board works in a very simple manner. A user can connect a DC source voltage to the board and can set the output voltage using the board’s interface. Then, the base frequency of the IC can be adjusted using either the onboard pot or the unprotected reference voltage to achieve a desired output voltage. The board can then be run in normal or abnormal operating conditions, such as high input line voltage or over-temperature conditions to test the power supply’s performance. After the desired output voltage is achieved, the SP6644UEB board will automatically maintain the output voltage.
The SP6644UEB provides a quick and easy way to test various switched-mode power supplies. It can be used to evaluate the performance of AC/DC and DC/DC systems in both normal and abnormal conditions.
