SS10P3HM3/87A is part of a range of single axial-leaded rectifier diodes offered by STMicroelectronics. This diode is a third-generation high cell density PowerMESH device aimed at high current and high reliability applications, offering low forward voltage drop and low reverse leakage current. This technology surpasses the traditional bulky designs, allowing the customers to save board space with a small-footprint package, thus reducing the weight of the final device.

Application field

SS10P3HM3/87A diodes are intended for use in switch mode power supplies, free-wheel diode applications and high current rectifier bridges. The device is suitable for bidirectional blocking, and can service more than 15 A. Working principle

The working principle is simple: an SS10P3HM3/87A diode has two terminals – Anode and Cathode. One of the terminals is the anode and the other the cathode. The anode is usually the positive side, and the cathode the negative side. When the anode is connected to a higher voltage than the cathode, the diode is biased in the forward direction, allowing current to flow through it (diode forward biased). Conversely, when the cathode is connected to a higher voltage than the anode, the diode is reverse biassed, blocking flow of current (diode reverse biased). The power dissipation can be calculated using the Voltage drop over the diode (Vf) and the current flowing through it (If).

SS10P3HM3/87A diodes feature an improved anode design and an integrated guardring, allowing lower current density, low EMI and improved efficiency, while maintaining a low forward voltage drop. Operating junction temperature range: from -60°C to 150°C, with a peak surge current (non-repitative) rated as 30A.
