SS3P3L-M3/87A

SS3P3L-M3/87A is a type of rectifier diode, a two-terminal semiconductor device. It is used most extensively in power conditioning applications like power supplies and converter circuits. The diode works by rectifying an alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC).

Having an anode, a cathode and a PN junction, the diode performs various functions such as suppression, rectification, inversion, and voltage stabilization. It is composed of a single layer of N-type material sandwiched between two layers of P-type material. A typical SS3P3L-M3/87A rectifier diode has a forward voltage drop of 1.4 V, a reverse breakdown voltage of 200 volts, and a forward current rating of 3 Amps.

In power conditioning applications, the SS3P3L-M3/87A rectifier diodes are commonly employed as rectifiers, voltage shunt regulators, or as an isolator between high voltage supplies of different levels. When the anode is connected to the positive supply and the cathode to the negative supply, the current will only flow in one direction through the diode – and that\'s the diode\'s rectifying characteristic. This makes it suitable for use in AC-to-DC conversion and also in DC-to-DC conversion circuits.

The SS3P3L-M3/87A rectifier diode also finds use as a voltage regulator in power supplies and other power conditioning circuits. During faulty operation, the diode will become forward biased, thus diverting all current through the preferred path that includes the diode. This results in the voltage applied at one end of the diode to remain constant which in turn helps regulate the output voltage.

In addition to power conditioning applications, the SS3P3L-M3/87A rectifier diodes are also used in RF (Radio Frequency) communications as well as light emitting diode (LED) lighting circuits. In RF communications, the diode is used to generate pulses by intercepting the signal at precise instants. The SS3P3L-M3/87A rectifier diodes are also employed in LED lighting circuit to act as conductor thus helping to limit the current flow to the LED and ensure stable operation.

The main advantages of using SS3P3L-M3/87A rectifier diode is that it provides full-wave rectification, meaning the whole AC waveform is rectified in one pass. This achieves the best power conversion efficiency and prevents the heat buildup that is experienced with half-wave rectifier diodes. Another advantage is that the device is small in size, which allows it to be designed into small, compact power supplies and circuits providing for better performance, efficiency and cost savings.
