SSG051T2AQ, short for (Serial-Interfaced Stepping Motor Driver with Microsteps and Chopper, is a type of product developed by BI Technology Corporation (BI). It is an integrated motor driver for high performance stepping motor applications. This product combines high performance, durability, and flexibility in order to reach the objective of providing users a solution to their need.

In regards to its applications, due to its features such as 40V absolute maximum power supply voltage, continuous oversampling chopper driving, 255- Microsteps per step, full motor phase current control, gain configuration, seven protection functions, and loaded type current regulation, SSG051T2AQ can be used in areas such as industrial automation, instrumentation and scientific research.

In relation to its working principle, SSG051T2AQ operates on the principle of “Pulse-Width- Modulation” (PWM). This technique regards the way of changing the frequency of the output waveform in order to control the output current, in order to minimize the motor’s phase current. Therefore, this principle presents an effective solution to generate a variable width pulse, which can be used to control the magnetization of the electromagnet by keeping the phase current constant.

The chip works by first rectifying the incoming AC (alternating current) to DC (direct current) and then using the DC signal to regulate the pulse width and frequency of the PWM signal in order to control the motor speed. This principle takes into account the motor characteristics, which is equally important as controlling the current flow through the motor in order to maintain a steady speed.

In addition, the integration of an on-board ADCs (Analog-to-Digital Converters) in the SSG051T2AQ allows ideal current regulation parameters to be selected and programmed. Furthermore, the device also features a gain adjustment function which enables non-linear rotor speed-torque curves to be accurately generated.
