The ST3485EBN is an integrated quad-rail line transceiver for the asynchronous serial communication interface in the market today. It is used for the driving and receiving of asynchronous serial data at speeds of up to 5 Mbps. It includes four independent channels that can be configured for a variety of applications. The ST3485EBN device provides a low Pin Count interface, making it ideal for a range of applications where space is limited.

The ST3485EBN is a transceiver composed of two receiver channels (RX1 and RX2) and two driver channels (TX1 and TX2). Each RX or TX channel is made up of a receiver (RX) or driver (TX) block, an oscillator circuit, an auxilliary clock circuit, a line monitor circuit and a serialiser/deserialliser (SD) circuit. The RX or TX channels are configured such that each block can receive and/or transmit in different directions.

The TX1 and TX2 channels each have three driver pins (D11, D12 and D13). The D11 pin is the data input control pin that controls the line flow rate, whereas D12 is the data line. The D13 pin is the direction control pin that allows the driver direction to be reversed.
