PMIC (Power Management IC) or PMU (Power Management Unit) is the primary responsible device in the microcontroller system for power supply management. Supervisors, a part of PMIC, regulate voltage and provide protection for the system. STM805RM6E is a new type of supervisor IC specialized for small form factor projects. It offers integrated voltage regulation, over-temperature and short-circuit protection, as well as stress and surge protection.STM805RM6E is designed to manage power supply and control a wide variety of project designs in small form-factors. It combines two ultra-low power DC-DC regulators, two 12V input rail monitors, and two short-circuit outputs in a 4-mm x 4-mm QFN package. It is capable of supplying output currents up to 750mA each, with the highest-efficiency (at least 90%) possible. The main application field of STM805RM6E is low-power projects which require a small form factor. Its application can include portable electronic product, power system, motor control, medical equipment and security products. Its recommended operating temperature range is -40℃ to +85℃.In term of working principle, STM805RM6E receives input power from one or two single-ended input sources. One of the sources has to be the main power line and the other can be the auxiliary output from a DC-DC converter or from a voltage regulator. With internal voltage regulators and power protection circuits, it provides protection from over-voltage, current limit and over-temperature.The two DC-DC converters are designed to provide two separate outputs with low power consumption and high efficiency. The two 12V input rail monitors are used to detect the input power level and provide feedback to the system power manager. It also provides two open drain output for short-circuit protection, and one enable input to control the switch on/off of each DC-DC converter.Overall, STM805RM6E is a solution for low-power projects that requires a small form factor with high efficiency, low noise and power consumption. With its integrated voltage regulators and power protection circuits, STM805RM6E can protect the system from over-voltages, current limit, over-temperature, short-circuits and stress.
