The STPIC6D595MTR is a 6-bit shift register consisting of 6 series-registered and notched stages, each one containing a data latch. Each data latch has a serial data input (DS) and a serial data output (QS). Data start shifting when a high-to-low signal is applied to the shift register clock (SHCP) input and is loaded when a low-to-high signal is applied to a load clock (STCP) input. Once data is loaded in the register and SHCP signal is set to high, data will start shifting from left to right. Output of the last register stage is connected to input of first stage, creating an endless loop of data.
The STPIC6D595MTR operates with a wide power supply range (2.75V to 6V) and consumes very low power when not in transmission. It includes a set of unconditionally stable low-power MOSFETs, that can switch heavy loads at peak currents up to 160mA. The device is also equipped with two fault detection inputs (FAULT1 and FAULT2) that can be used to shut down or restart the power switch, based on signals from an external microcontroller.
The STPIC6D595MTR is built as an intelligent power switch, providing a wide array of protection features. It has fault detection, thermal shutdown, double pulse suppression, slew rate control and over-current protection circuits. Its maximum allowable power dissipation of 10W allows for MOSFETs with ratings up to 11A to be used.
