The device requires five voltages, namely VCC, V CL , V DD , V IL , and VOH, to operate. It also integrates a latch, high current drive capability, and an overvoltage protection and is offered in the 16-pin SOIC package. The device can transfer the data between two data lines; the serial in and serial out. The shift register works in two phases; the first phase is the clock phase, during which the write data is written into each register bit. The second phase is the output phase in which the data is moved from one register bit to the next and the last register bit is moved to the serial output.
