Application Field

The STPS2150 is mainly used for synchronous rectification in Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) and AC-DC converters. Working Principle

The STPS2150 operates with a quasi-resonant switching frequency that has both higher switching speed and higher efficiency than traditional switching rectifiers. When used in an AC-DC converter, the diode module forms a two-stage synchronous rectification circuit, consisting of a resonant tank, two non-overlapping dual-channel switches, and a Schottky diode bridge rectifier. This circuit rectifies AC mains current through the use of two synchronous switches that are closed at the peak of the input AC waveform, allowing power to flow through the Schottky Power Diode Bridge to generate a low ripple output.

As the AC voltage waveform reaches its peak, a Gate Driver turns on two non-overlapping synchronous switches, allowing current to flow through the Schottky Diode Bridge in the forward direction. As the input waveform begins to decrease, the gate drivers reverse the operation, causing the switches to turn off. The current is then stored in the resonant tank, which allows the device to maintain a high switching efficiency.

The STPS2150 also features a very low reverse recovery time, which translates to less energy lost during circuit switching operations. This low reverse recovery time allows for a higher switching frequency, thus improving power efficiency and reducing power losses.
