Diodes - Rectifiers - Single - STTH3R02 Application Field and Working Principle

STTH3R02 is a series of versatile ultrafast recovery rectifiers which can be used in a number of applications and are suitable for use in consumer electronic devices such as computers and laptops, displays, HDTVs, solar cells, and other flat panel displays. This series of rectifiers consists of different models with different voltages, current ratings and recovery times ranging from 6 to 1000 volts, and 0.5 to 3 A.The STTH3R02 rectifiers are semiconductor devices which are used to convert alternating current into direct current by using a process called rectification. This process involves the device blocking AC current during the positive half of the cycle and allowing it to pass during the negative half. This creates two output voltages- one rectified and one non-rectified. The rectified voltage is used in applications such as power supplies and it is this type of power supply which is most commonly found in consumer electronics. The STTH3R02 rectifiers also have high switching speed and low loss characteristics which make them ideally suited for use in power supplies. The rectifier consists of two parts- the input and the output. The input is connected to a power supply while the output is connected to the device. When a voltage is applied to the input, current flows through the rectifier and is then directed to the output.The working principle of the STTH3R02 rectifier is based upon the PN junction diode. PN junction diodes are composed of two types of semiconductor material- a P-type material which has an excess of \'holes\' and an N-type material which has an excess of electrons. When these two materials are connected together, an electrical field is created which allows electrons to \'jump\' from the N-type material to the P-type material, thus creating an electrical current.When an AC voltage is applied to the PN junction diode, the voltage will alternate between positive and negative. During the positive half of the cycle, the electric field created will be pointing in the opposite direction to the current flow and will therefore block the current. During the negative half of the cycle, the electric field created by the PN junction diode will be in the same direction as the current flow and will therefore allow the current to flow through. This process is known as rectification and is the principle upon which the STTH3R02 rectifier works.The STTH3R02 rectifier is ideal for use in any kind of power device where AC power is required, such as laptops, TVs, computers, and displays. It can also be used in renewable energy systems such as solar cells and wind turbines.
