The SUTS6123R3 features a flexible digital control interface (a flexible three-wire interface) and can easily be programmed for a wide range of applications.The SUTS6123R3 is based on the fly-back topology and works by transforming a higher voltage direct current (DC) input voltage to a lower voltage DC output. The fly-back topology is a type of DC – DC converters that uses a transformer with two or more windings in order to step down a DC voltage. It works by storing electric energy in the transformer’s core when the primary winding is energized and releasing the electric energy when the primary winding is de-energized.The SUTS6123R3 operates in two main modes:1. Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM): In CCM mode, the output of the converter is in continuous regulation. As such, when the input voltage is higher than the desired output voltage, the converter switches off and the energy stored in the transformer’s core is released, achieving the desired output voltage. 2. Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM): In DCM mode, the output of the converter is in a highly regulated state. When the input voltage is lower than the desired output voltage, the converter switches off and the energy stored in the transformer’s core is quickly released, achieving the desired output voltage. This mode of operation is usually used for low power applications. The SUTS6123R3 also features over current protection and over temperature protection. The Over Current protection ensures that the current drawn from the output of the converter is within the specified range (10A) and that any excessive current is quickly shut off. Similarly, the over temperature protection ensures that the output temperature does not exceed the specified limit. In the event that the temperature level does exceed the limit, the converter will shut down to protect the driver’s safety and the device’s operation.The SUTS6123R3 can be used in a variety of applications including automotive, industrial, and medical applications.
