The energy stored in a capacitor is an indication of the charge differential between these two plates.In the case of a tantalum capacitor, the plates are made of a tantalum material, typically composed of a sintered anode that is oxidized to form a layer of tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5). When a positive voltage is applied to the anode, the tantalum pentoxide acts as the dielectric layer of the capacitor and positive mobile ions (tantalum hexafluoride) move to the cathode, providing a space-charge layer across the dielectric. This layer presents an negative polarization, proportional to the applied voltage and thus, a stored energy.When a negative voltage is applied, the space-charge layer does not dissipate immediately. This causes an oxide layer to form on the anode and thus maintaining the state of the space-charge layer. This unique feature of the tantalum capacitor is what makes it particularly suitable for high-temperature, low-impedance operation, as the oxide layer ensures better capacitance stability and higher energy density.Aside from its low impedance operation, the T354J107K010AS is also capable of providing high-temperature operation. Its standard design makes it suitable for operation at temperatures up to 125°C to 175°C without sacrificing any of its performance characteristics. The capacitor can also withstand high temperature cycles and withstand corrosion related issues, while maintaining its characteristics over extended periods of time.In addition to its efficiency in high temperature operation, the T354J107K010AS also has wide variety of characteristics that make it ideal for applications that require high capacitance in small SMD footprints.
