Tantalum capacitors, also known as tantalum electrolytic capacitors, are one of the most common types of capacitors used in electrical and electronic circuits. They are built from a thin film of tantalum metal, and an oxide layer that acts as the dielectric, or insulating material, between the two pieces of metal. As with all capacitors, the purpose of a tantalum capacitor is to store an electrical charge, which can then be discharged when needed. In this way, they act like batteries, but there are some significant differences.
