Tantalum capacitors are made of a tantalum powder or pellet composed mainly of tantalum pentoxide, encapsulated inside a very thin oxide film. This type of capacitor is generally used in electrical devices where it is required to handle higher voltages than a bipolar electrolytic capacitor.
