Working Principle

A tantalum capacitor is constructed with two electrically conductive layers separated by a dielectric layer. The anode is made of activated tantalum and the cathode is made up of either a porous tantalum layer coated with a conductive metal or sometimes with another metal layer. The dielectric layer between the anode and cathode of the TAJB475K035Y is a solid layer of insulating material comprising oxide or nitride.

When a voltage is applied on the anode, electrons traveling in a current will form a thin oxide layer on the surface. This layer isolates and prevents electric current flowing through.
