Tantalum capacitors, also known as Ta-CAPs, are a type of electrolytic capacitor with unique characteristics. They are typically used in applications requiring a high level of reliability, such as aerospace and medical applications, and also in consumer electronics, automotive electronics, and mobile communications, and are valued for their high capacitance-to-volume ratio, low leakage current, and low failure-rate opportunities. The TAJY157K010TNJV series of tantalum capacitors is a miniature surface mount device designed for small volume, space-constrained applications requiring higher capacitance values and high temperature performance. The TAJY157K010TNJV series is designed for use in applications where one or more discrete capacitors are required for power smoothing, power supply bypassing, or high frequency bypassing to filter out digital and RF noise. Typical applications include switching power supplies, DC/DC converters, switching converters, filter capacitors, decoupling capacitors, voltage regulators, surge and inverters protection, and energy recovery systems.The TAJY157K010TNJV is a two-terminal, non-polarized Surface-Mount Device (SMD) tantalum capacitor with a maximum impedance of 1.07 ✕ 10-3 ohms at 1 kHz. It offers exceptionally low leakage current of 0.045 μA and a minimum capacitance of 10μF at -55°C to +85°C. It has a high ripple current rating of 2.2A rms and can withstand high-temperature cycling from -55 ℃ to +125 ℃. It has a fast operating temperature range of -55 ℃ to +125 ℃, with a maximum voltage rating of 16V DC.The TAJY157K010TNJV is constructed of an AVX tantalum oxide anode, a ceramic or vapor-deposited solid electrolyte dielectric, a special conductive A-M alloy cathode, and a hermetic seal. Tantalum oxide is the most common anode material used in tantalum capacitors and is one of the highest capacitance materials. The dielectric provides the desired capacitance, dielectric strength, and charge-discharge cycles, while the conductive alloy cathode helps electrons to flow more easily between the anode and the electrodes, resulting in a lower leakage current. The hermetic seal prevents moisture and air from penetrating the capacitor, allowing for improved reliability and longevity. In operation, an electrical charge is formed through the capacitor when a potential difference is applied between the two terminals. This potential difference causes the anode to absorb electrolyte from the environment, which forces the electrons through the anode, dielectric, and cathode. Once the anode has fully absorbed electrolyte and no more electrons can pass, the charge is established and a current can now flow across the device.
