Tantalum capacitors are a type of electrolytic capacitor. These capacitors use tantalum as the anode, preferably in powdered form, because its high surface area to volume ratio increases the capacitance of the device. In the application field, TAP335K025CRS solid tantalums are used for general purpose bulk storage, with applications such as buffering, energy savings in portable devices, leakage protection, and power backup systems.

The working principle of a tantalum capacitor involves the use of an electrolyte, which works together with the dielectric layer formed on the tantalum anode to produce a non-polarized capacitor.
