Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum capacitors are the most advanced type of the electrolytic capacitors. A tantalum capacitor is made from two sheets of tantalum foil separated by a material called dielectric. The tantalum foil acts as the conductive plates in the capacitor and the dielectric material acts as the insulating medium to prevent short circuiting between the two plates. The most common types of tantalum capacitors are the non-polar capacitors and the polarized capacitors. A non-polar capacitor is capable of operating reliably even when the voltage across the two terminals is reversed.
